Rye

Rye (winter rye) in many cases offers the opportunity to sow a ground cover late (until the end of October). Rye provides some ground cover during the winter (greatly dependent on the time of sowing) and after the winter growth starts quickly. The crop must be plowed in on time. A heavy crop extracts a lot of water from the soil and plowing under is not easy. Moreover, this can have a disruptive effect on the capillary rise of the water and the root development of the succeeding crop.

One variety is currently registered on the Belgian variety list. This certainly meets the requirements for rye as a green cover, i.e. good winter resistance and smooth spring development. Price and seed quality are partly decisive when purchasing the seed.

JOBARO (2005)

Fairly good to good ground cover before winter and good ground cover after winter. Good frost tolerance. Very good disease tolerance and rapid regrowth after winter.
