Cock's foot or Orchard grass (Dactylis glomerata L.)

Orchard grass is particularly resistant to drought. Under mowing conditions it gives high yields with ample N fertilization. In contrast to other grasses, yield is well spread over the entire grazing season; production is good, especially in the summer months. Orchard grass is less suitable for grazing because it bolts very early and therefore leaves little time for grazing. The palatability also deteriorates quite quickly during growth. Orchard grass is resistant to rust infestation but susceptible to leaf spot disease.

At the moment the Belgian Variety List does not contain any varieties of this grass species.
